This is a “warts and all” account of my experience with a lot of humour and indeed gallows humour thrown in.
I believe that the candid nature of my musings will de-mystify some of the frightening aspects of Prostate Cancer, continence and Erectile Dysfunction. Hence the title Prostate Piddling and Passion.
The book takes the story from my doctor’s digital rectal examination through the entire process culminating in a Radical robotic Prostatectomy, urinary incontinence and using Viagra to bolster Erectile Function. Commentary on supportive family and professionals in the health service are spattered through-out.
The Consultant asked how was the potence performance at this stage pre surgery and I told him that “metaphorically I was playing senior hurling, even occasionally attaining a three-in-a-row and fair play to my wife, for once, she didn’t argue.”
I must state that this is not a medical journal and the account within this booklet is merely a description of my personal journey.
I hope you find that the bigger font size makes this an easy read for you!

As I went through the procedure myself, I honestly thought the book was very enjoyable and witty. It helped to put a lot of my friends and family members minds at ease before their procedures. I reccommend the book to everyone. I would advise any man to read the book, whether they are in this situation or not. It may not be your problem today, but it may be one day, dear Frankie always said.
Gerry tells his story with a sense of witt. Easy reading for those non readers. Explains to the men in our lives what a prostate exam means. And the function of the prostate.
Must read for all men.
It’s a very informative and detailed book and readable in a short time , and more importantly hilarious , which is important when facing this mountain .
Should be in every Doctor s reception, and available in Consultants waiting room .
Gerry’s book brings humour to such a serious topic whilst raising awareness and serving as a reminder to men to keep an eye on their own health.
